Gatsby’s humble origins make his financial success even more impressive. He owed this success in part to Cody, a wealthy mogul. After the war, Cody helped start off Gatsby by taking him on board his yacht to travel around the world. Although Gatsby’s duty was to look out for Cody due to his heavy drinking addiction, he was able to explore, meet rich people, and fall in love with the wealthy lifestyle. Cody was a pivotal character in Gatsby‘s life and further encouraged him to pursue richness.
Gatsby’s obsession with Daisy made him behave in very strange ways throughout the novel.
Daisy served as the driving force for his quest to obtain richness since that was really all that mattered to her. This pushed Gatsby to participate in rumored illegal activities like bootlegging. Although, he was able to grow his fortune Daisy continued to control his behavior, even after they began their romance. He even fired his servants to avoid rumors surrounding their affair. His love for daisy was so great, Gatsby took the blame for the death of Myrtle knowing well that Daisy was behind it all, demonstrating his behavior was inhumane As long as he had Daisy in his arms. Daisy was Gatsby’s greatest weakness and ultimate downfall. He sacrificed his entire life to getting her back, trying to remake the past, but by the end of the novel she would ultimately make her final decision, leaving Gatsby vulnerable and miserable.
Although Gatsby demonstrated plenty of kind manners and many polite actions, he also exposed a superior amount of horrific decisions. Many of these decisions were made in order to get Daisy back or to please her needs, like when he wasted gigantic amount of money to throw huge parties just hope one day Daisy would arrive. Not knowing Daisy didn’t enjoy those type of parties, he resumed hoping for that day to come, which never arrived from those attempts. In fact, his silence about the death of Myrtle proved he was a bad person. Even though, there’s a gentleman action demonstrated by taking the blame the right thing to do was to confess about the incident In order to avoid further problems, which quickly appeared. Gatsbys murder soon arrived due to combinations, silence, misunderstandings, and set ups. Myrtles husband, Wilson, quickly found out who the car that hit his wife belong to, informed by Tom. Even though, Tom probably didn’t know Daisy was responsible for Myrtle’s death, he had no right to snitch on Gatsby knowing Wilson had a gun on him. Ultimately, Wilson killed Gatsby thinking he killed his wife. Gatsby had a mixture of bad and good in him do to plenty actions falling in both categories.
Gatsby was in love with Daisy leading him to commit invalid decisions, not caring the consequences. He showed multiple emotions with plenty of responsible commitments, but also demonstrated incorrect decisions. He wasn’t a cruel person, he was just deeply in love with his one true love leading him to do anything he can to hold Daisy in his arms. Doing everything in his hands to get Daisy back and to please her needs, resulted in Gatsby‘s death.
